If 1985 is considered the greatest year for horror, 1986 certainly comes in as a close second. Taking the trends we saw in 1985 to an even greater level, 1986 saw the advancement of creature effects and extensive Lovecraftian imagery. As the VHS market continued to grow in popularity and home video recorders increased in accessibility, we began to see a paradigm shift as a new low budget horror niche emerged. Monsters grew in prevalence and studios continued feeding into the sequel craze, giving us the 7th Friday the 13th, a 3rd Psycho and a Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel.
